With Victor Cruz dealing with yet another injury, the New York Giants receiving corps would seemingly take a hit without the star wide out. However, that hasn’t exactly been the case. Much of credit could and should be attributed to Odell Beckham Jr. and Rueben Randle, but Dwayne Harris has quietly stepped up for the Giants. Harris, 28, is typically viewed as a special teams ace, but this past week he showed his value as the number three receiver. Harris put it very bluntly saying, “I was just open… It’s that simple”. However he’s getting it done, I’m sure Eli and the Giants appreciate it. After facing a QB in Tyrod Taylor this past week, several Giants players claim that not much will be changing in their defensive game-plan. Defensive tackle Jay Bromley said that, “It’s basically the same game-plan as far as really containing him as a runner”. Also adding that Kaepernick has rare straight-line speed. Linebacker Mark Herzlich believes that this match-up is a good thing for the Giants because, “we prepared for a very similar guy last week… We just got to keep doing the same type of things we were doing”. Giants defensive linemen Cullen Jenkins gave some encouraging words towards Kaepernick this week. He points out the obvious by saying that Kaepernick hasn’t been putting up the stats that he would like, but he believes that Kaepernick can turn it around. Saying that, “he’s still a good quarterback [and] there’s a reason why that why he’s still a starter and been to championship games and Super Bowls. I know for sure he’ll catch his rhythm at some point”. Aside from the football field, the Giants are also facing a battle in the locker room. They recently saw tight end Daniel Fells get lost for the season due to MRSA. In case you didn’t know, MRSA is a serious staph infection that is resistant against many antibiotics. The team has taken the proper precautions and has scrubbed down the entire team facility. Current Giants corner Prince Amukamara had MRSA during his freshman year at Nebraska, but he wasn’t aware of the seriousness of it until this outbreak. However, quarterback Eli Manning and receiver Odell Beckham Jr. aren’t too concerned about it. “If something is going to happen, it’s going to happen.” said Beckham Jr. “I believe in destiny and faith”.
